The Thrill of the Fight VR

The Thrill of the Fight is a room-scale arcade boxing game for the HTC Vive. It was designed exclusively for VR and therefore requires the HTC Vive headset to play. It's also a room-scale game, so you require, according to the developer, to have a play area of at least 2m x 1.5m in size. The game listed on Steam as a single-player game, so, unfortunately, you won't be able to fight against other people online, there is no multiplayer. Maybe that will change in the future, but that's what we know so far according to the game's Steam page.

My initial impressions are very positive. I don't know about you, but I really like the overall designed of the boxing training room and most of all, I liked the smooth and realistic character movement. The developer has mentioned that the game doesn't try to be a realistic boxing simulator, but rather an arcading one, so I assume we should not expect true physics to take into play. I've read a comment from a user who complained about the physics, but even if you try it in Early Access, keep in mind that as of the time of writing, the game is still in development and many things might and probably will change when the game is released.

So what you can do in this room-scale VR boxing game? You can dodge and block stacks, hit enemy outside "sweet spot" windows, land jabs, uppercuts, cross, hooks, stun your opponent and knock him down. You control the boxer's hands using the two HTC Vive tracked motion controllers, each one is tight to a single hand in the game. So you actually need to move your hands like a real boxer because your actions are translated 1-to-1 to the virtual space. The game also features a fatigue system for blocking and punching, height calibration and head tracking .
