RIGS Mechanized Combat League

There are many hurdles ahead for the PlayStation VR, with the price of the headset being one of the biggest. But there’s also the issue that using VR can cause nausea, especially if it’s a fast action game with traditional first person controls. So we don’t know if it’s bravery or foolhardiness that RIGS is exactly the sort of game that we’ve just warned about. It does a number of clever things to mitigate the possible side effects of playing it, but make no mistake: this is full fat virtual reality.

The other thing we find surprising about RIGS is that it’s clearly trying to channel the ghost of WipEout, by creating a fictional future sport for you to take part in. We can’t help wondering why Sony didn’t just make an actual WipEout game, whose controls and use of VR would’ve been a little more sedate (fast forward movement isn’t generally a problem with nausea). But they’ve gone whole hog and RIGS portrays a future where giant robots battle each other for fun and profit in specially designed arenas.
